GCEMS 2006 Award Recipients

This page is dedicated to recognizing the accomplishments and commendations of our members.  In addition to our annual awards, you will find some humorous awards that are given at our department's annual awards banquet, held at the end of EMS Week.

EMS Provider of the Year:    Each year, all department members vote to pick one person who they believe deserves the EMS Person of the Year award.  The 2006 EMS Person of the Year was awarded to::

Kyle Starr, CCEMT/P

The FART Award:    The FART award is given out to recognize an EMT or First Responder for efficient patient care.  The 2006 FART award went to:

Stephanie Williams, EMT/B

The Empty Bed Award:    This award honors one of our paid-on-call staff who volunteers for many transfers.  Since many of our transfers are at night, this often results in an empty bed, hence the name.  The recipient of this award often volunteers to report for duty, even when not scheduled, if on-duty personnel cannot go on a transfer.  The 2006 Empty Bed award went to:

Floyd Peterson, First Responder

EMS Widow of the Year:    This is bestowed on the wife who most often ended up sleeping alone during the last year due to their spouse answering the call to duty.  Often, this is the spouse of the Empty Bed award recipient.  The 2006 EMS Widow of the Year is:

Elaine Peterson (wife of Floyd Peterson, EMT/F)

Continued Improvement Award:    Given for overall improvement in their patient care skills through continued experience.  The 2006 recipient of this award is:

Sharon Hotchkiss, EMT/B

Golden Laryngoscope Award:    Given for the most messed up call.  This can be an especially strange call, or just one that doesn't go at all as planned.  The 2006 award goes to:

Brian Williams, EMT/P

Pathways Award:    Given to the member who transports the most psychiatric patients in the last year.  This year the recipient is:

Corey Davis, EMT/B

Transfer Tour Guide Award:    When we have new paramedics onboard, they usually come from other states, so many of our members find enjoyment in "playing tour guide".  The return trips on our long-range patient transfers offers a great opportunity to do this.  This award is given periodically to members who take pride in orienting new paramedics to Montana.  This year, two recipients were chosen.  The awards go to:

Cliff Wevley, EMT/B

Floyd Peterson, EMT/F
